The town of Hagenow is located in the west of the Ludwigslust-Parchim district. Since 2012, Hagenow has been an active member of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. As a medium-sized centre between the state capitals Schwerin (approx. 30 km away) and Hamburg (approx. 80 km away), Hagenow has developed into a modern business location in recent years. Approximately 500 million euros have been invested in this since reunification. Traditionally, the food industry forms the economic backbone. With Karl Kühne GmbH & Co. KG, Trolli GmbH and the Emsland Group, among others, various internationally active top companies have already settled here. But metal construction also has a long tradition in Hagenow and the surrounding area. The origins lie in the past, supra-regional importance of the Hagenow railway station with the establishment of its own maintenance and repair capacities for rail vehicles. Currently, system components and devices for the food industry and vehicle construction are produced for well-known manufacturers in and around Hagenow. The city works closely and in a spirit of trust with the Federal Employment Agency to recruit workers for new settlements. The agency's employer service provides a comprehensive package of services for investors. Hagenow is also a modern Bundeswehr location, which has additional employment effects and binds skilled workers to the location. About 12,500 inhabitants live in Hagenow today. They appreciate the well-developed infrastructure, the modern hospital, the well-equipped schools and the childcare facilities. The majority of the kindergartens and crèches are owned by the municipality. The management of the facilities is instructed to ensure special opening hours, e.g. night groups, if required. Hagenow has a rich club life and a very good cultural programme in the renovated synagogue ensemble (venue of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival) as well as a wide range of shopping facilities. Locals, tourists and visitors can find peace and relaxation in the Bekow recreation area. An open-air swimming pool invites you to linger. There is a varied network of cycle paths around Hagenow.
